Come, Rest, Learn (Matthew 11:28–30)
Reading: Matthew 11:28–30 (ESV)
Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest… For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.
Reflection
Jesus doesn’t offer a life with no load; He offers a different yoke—His presence partnered with your pace. We carry heavy things: expectations, regrets, timelines, image management. He invites us to trade them for Him: “Come to Me.” Rest isn’t the absence of responsibility; it’s the presence of the Gentle and Lowly King walking with you. His yoke fits your shoulders because it was carved by nail-scarred hands. Learn from Him—His humility, His unhurried trust in the Father, His habit of slipping away to pray. When your soul is tired, the cure isn’t to do more, but to come closer. Today, switch yokes: name the burden you’re carrying and consciously place it on Christ through prayer.
Apply
- Pray: “Jesus, I trade this burden for Your yoke” and name it specifically.
- Block 10 minutes for quiet with Matthew 11:28–30; underline “come to me.”
- Set one boundary that protects unhurried time with God this week.
- Ask one friend how you can pray for their burden—and actually pray.
Prayer
Jesus, I come to You. I lay down my heavy load and receive Your gentle, light yoke. Teach my heart Your pace and give my soul real rest. Amen.
